Semifinal field complete

The West team from Tucson, Arizona and the Europe-Africa team from Milan, Italy have advanced to Friday’s semifinals of the 2014 Junior Softball World Series.

West 4, Central 2

Yannira Acuna led the West with three hits and Amaya Turner added a pair, while Andrea Escarcega had two RBI. Angela Sallas was the winning pitcher, giving up just one earned run over six innings. Casey Schweitzer went 3-for-3 with a double for the Central team representing Jeff/GRC American Little League of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Europe-Africa 2, Host 1

The Host team representing Washington District 9 lost yet another heartbreaker by one run. Giorgia Migliorini was the pitching star for Italy, allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out seven. Europe-Africa scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth and then held on for the win.

Tori Bivens was again stellar in the circle for Kirkland, striking out 15 while walking just two. She also drove in the Host’s lone run with a third-inning single.
